FP parents of Kathleen Murray Primary School in Grabouw
Diane and Denise Prige, a Foundation Phase Subject Advisor in the Overberg Metropole, ran three evening sessions for parents at Kathleen Murrary Primary School in Grabouw.
Wednesday 19 April - Parents of grade 1 learners
- Thursday 20 April - Parents of Grade 2 learners
- Monday 23 April- Parents of Grade 3 learners
These sessions were held from 19.00 – 21.00 in the evenings
The main objective was to encourage and motivate parents to read and write for and with their children. The school felt that at general parent meetings they focus on too many aspects of the school and they wanted us to design a session where the focus was on getting parents involved in language and mathematics development of their children.
The sessions were well received by parents and also well attended.
Creative Writing in the Overberg
Three Creative Writing workshops for Grade 1 educators and their HOD's were held in the Overberg Education District from 21 - 21 February 2017.
Extended writing is not happening in most classrooms and most writing is just filling in one or two word answers so the district requested that we focus on creative writing.
Circuit 1 - Swellendam area (Afrikaans) Venue VRT Pitt Ps - 46 participants
Circuit 2 - Hermanus Area (Afrikaans, isiXhosa & English) Venue Zwelihle Ps - 74 participants
Circuit 3 - Caledon Area (Afrikaans) Venue Laerskool Overberg - 38 participants
The sessions was held from 15.00 - 17.00
The FP Subject Advisors responsible for the respective circuits also attended each session. Jenny Bridgman the Curriculum Manager also attended the session in Hermanus and she was very positive about the session. The workshops were well received by all in attendance.

Thank you for availing your time to share your knowledge with our advisors and teachers. I was not able to attend but the feedback from teachers and advisors was excellent.
Riana responded in saying it is one of the best she has attended in a long time and you really inspired her.
We were very fortunate to have you and we appreciate your dedication to our district.
